Coming to the Glenbow: “The Optimism of Colour: William Perehudoff, A Retrospective”

Newzones is pleased to announce that William Perehudoff’s monumental retrospective exhibition from Mendel Art Gallery “The Optimism of Colour: William Perehudoff” will be traveling to the Glenbow Museum in July 2011.

The Optimism of Colour: William Perehudoff celebrates the achievements of this important Canadian painter and traces the evolution of his distinctive artistic approach.

In 2010, this distinguished artist turned 92. While his work has been seen in numerous group and solo exhibitions over the past 30 years, this is the first comprehensive survey of his career. The Optimism of Colour brings together an array of the works Perehudoff was most famous for – luminous, abstract paintings that are understood to be part of what’s known as the Colour Field movement.

Through the course of his 60—year career, Perehudoff has built an international reputation while remaining a mentor to generations of artists and an important friend of the arts in the prairie cultural scene. Drawn from public and private collections, this exhibition was curated for the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon by guest curator Karen Wilkin of New York City.
