Tip #6: Be Your Own Curator

What is it about a certain artwork that speaks to you? Do the different pieces you like have something in common? Chances are they do and once you discover what that is, build on it!

  

 

Tip #7: Try It Out! Preview Art In Your Space

If you have the opportunity, why not try out a piece of art in your own environment before committing to a purchase? Previewing artwork in your home or office is often much different than viewing it in the gallery. This will make it much easier to get a feel for the scale, lighting and how other elements in your space will work without having to imagine it. Newzones offers our local clients the opportunity to test out an artwork for 5 business days. Alternatively, if you aren’t able to have the work brought out, ask the gallery if they can super-impose images of the works into a photograph of your space.

 

 

Tip #8: Visit Art Fairs

Art fairs provide the opportunity to compare a wealth of galleries and the artists they represent under one roof. This can be a great way to discover artists and styles that you haven’t seen before, especially if you can make it to an international fair. Just make sure to take your time as not to completely overwhelm yourself! Many fairs offer artist talks and similar events that can aid in furthering your art education.

 

 

Tip #9: Take Care of Your Collection

It is important to keep your collection in good condition. Be sure to ask the gallery how to properly care for your newly acquired artworks, as each medium has specific needs. It’s wise to ask how exposure to environmental factors such as light and humidity may affect the artwork. Also, don’t forget to make sure your insurance stays up to date as your collection grows.

 

 

Tip #10: Share Your Collection with Friends and Family

It’s incredibly fulfilling to share your collection! And it’s the perfect time of year when you have family and friends over for the holidays. Enjoy your collection with friends and family; show it off, talk about it! Your collection will bring your friends as much joy as it has brought to you and you might just find your next lead to a fantastic new artwork through the conversation.
