This exhibition is like a carousel of sorts - constantly rotating! Now that summer has finally made its way to Calgary, Newzones is excited to showcase various artworks including paintings, photographs and sculpture. To celebrate the sunshine, bright and vibrant artwork will constantly be on display. "Sunscreen" is a great opportunity for Newzones to display new inventory and/or 'new to Calgary' artwork.

This stimulating exhibition is sure to delight the senses and all are encouraged to make a habit of stopping in the gallery as the artwork rotates each week.

Sophie Jodoin: Open letters

This new series of drawings by Sophie Jodoin stems from an ongoing body of work about book dedications and interrupted, long-term communication with a loved one. In this exhibition, Jodoin turns personal letters into open letters by the simple act of presenting viewers with drawings of emptied envelopes. What is private becomes public, and though nothing is revealed – the contents have been removed and remain hidden – intimacy remains. These disappearing objects, near-relics in an era of overwhelming digital communication, invite contemplation. They become containers of our past, of former relationships and possible beginnings; of temporary comforts, desires, fears, and loves both told and untold.

Born in Montreal, Sophie Jodoin received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Concordia University and then studied anatomy at the New York Academy of Art. Her drawings have been widely exhibited across Canada, the United States and Europe in both solo and group shows. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe.

Franco DeFrancesca:
Tune In, Turn On...

As a multidisciplinary artist since 2004, DeFrancesca has been creating and exhibiting art and art projects ranging from sculpture/installation, photography, digital art, and sound art exploring narratives and representations that materialize notions of media, technology, art history, and pop culture.

DeFrancesca explores digital media as a mode of creating abstraction in the form of an art object.  He investigates the links between art and memory, history and technology, by using digital imaging as a means to navigate the territory between photography and painting, mixing references to photography, painting and display technology.

DeFrancesca has exhibited in Canada and the United States and has been collected by various private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe.
